REAL WEDDING // Jenna & Luke - Dreamy Santorini Watercolour Wedding

blue dome 2.jpg

Huge congratulations to Jenna and Luke who tied the knot in Santorini last summer at the STUNNING Santo Winery. If you’re anything like us, these beautiful blue sky photographs are what you need on this frosty February morning, so a grab a cuppa and read all about their seaside nuptials. Photography by Eva Rendl Photography and Dimitris Paridis Photography.

We loved working with Jenna & Luke to create their suite of bespoke wedding day stationery including Order of Service fans, table plan, menu choice cards and place settings all finished with fresh green watercolour background, modern calligraphy and gold foiled detail.

venue 1.jpg

Their stunning location didn’t need much decoration but we love how the crisp white interior of Santo Winery mixed with the blue sky and sea echoed the traditional blue and white architecture of the region. Our stationery and the floral arrangements by Betty Flowers added the finishing pops of green to their ceremony space.

REAL WEDDING // Abbi & Matt - North Devon Farmhouse Glam Wedding

Abbi&Matt-GraceElizabethPhoto&Film-453.jpg

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE - What better way to celebrate the beginning of 2019 than sharing a special wedding from the previous year! 5th September 2018 was the day our buddies Abbi & Matt tied the knot at the stunning North Devon venue Ash Barton Estate. Abbi & Matt chose a mix of bespoke and DIY hand made details for their wedding day which included belting out Queen songs during their ceremony, evening sparklers, home baked cakes, hand painted stationery and more. This wedding day is bound to give you the all the feels so read on for heartwarming photos, beautiful details and top tips from the bride herself - Enjoy! Wedding day photography by Grace Elizabeth Photo & Film.

Abbi was keen to use stars within the couple’s bespoke wedding designs; from her clothing and jewellery to their home furnishings stars always feature and so this is where their invitation artwork began. We had previously created a portrait for the couple and this paired with a constellation motif became the backbone of their stationery.

We met with Matt and Abbi to chat about the feel they wanted to create for their wedding day and although formal they still wanted their invitations to feel fun. The gold detail gave an element of glamour and the sleek, slim shape kept it feeling like guests were invited to a black tie affair.

Ash Barton Estate is an exclusive use venue nestled in the North Devon countryside; chapel, party barn, farmhouse with kitchen and rooms for guests to stay, pool, games room, not to mention the view; this venue was perfect for Abbi & Matt who, with the help of friends and family, did everything from a big welcome BBQ to baking their own wedding cake before the official celebrations had even begun.

Abbi&Matt-GraceElizabethPhoto&Film-35.jpg
Abbi&Matt-GraceElizabethPhoto&Film-3.jpg

Their day had all the glamour of a (big) vintage white wedding - tuxedoes and all, but with the warmth of an intimate family celebration; this couple took their time spending a couple of years planning a day right for them. Read on for top tips from the DIY bride herself, our beautiful pal Abbi…

Find a venue that works for you: We knew from day one that we did not want a venue that you rock up to, in a hotel, and stay for 10 hours whilst making small talk at the shared bar with another wedding, or worse some sort of business convention. No, no, no. Luckily the year before we got engaged one of my best friends got married at a venue with accommodation for guests and it helped in our wedding venue hunt so much.

More than just one day: We knew we wanted our guests there to celebrate with us the night before and night of the wedding; with ours being a DIY wedding this venue also gave us the chance to get in and decorate the day before (which actually turned into 2 days before, what a dream!). Also having guests coming from such a mix of locations from Birmingham, Bristol, Torquay and Plymouth we tried to find a venue somewhat in the middle, and chanced upon North Devon and our incredible venue, Ash Barton Estate.

Look and feel: Think about what you want your day to look and feel like, do you want guests there over night all mucking in, having a bbq and sitting by the fire pit. Do you want kids (and many adults) running around, playing on trampolines and fighting about air hockey. Do you want a self serving bar for your guests to enjoy… because we did!

For big family weddings having guests stay on site at the venue is a great idea, everyone was free to head back to their rooms to change out of heels/grab a jumper/take kids for a nap, but of course you don’t want anyone to miss any of the action. We created this Order of the Day sign featuring their bespoke constellation illustration to keep all the guests up to date with what was happening when.

Pastel florals with coral pink pops of colour created by Sophie Millington looked beautiful throughout the venue across the stone buildings and hanging foliage.

Abbi&Matt-GraceElizabethPhoto&Film-413.jpg

You cannot ever re-do you wedding photos: … so make damn sure your photographer can create what you are looking for. As you might have guessed from above, our wedding was a family affair, full of kids and so many of our friends chipping in and becoming immersed in the whole experience with us. We were not going to be able to capture the feel of this in posed, poised photos. We needed natural, candid shots throughout the day, and this is exactly why we went with Grace and Mitch. I had met them even before we got engaged, whilst Grace was still a student, as I helped on a styled shoot (with none other than Dearly Beloved). Grace and Mitch were shooting me throughout the day and made me feel so comfortable, when the photos came back in I felt she had captured me so well, laughing, joking, and relaxed. So, as soon as we got engaged we contacted Grace and as soon as the venue had confirmed dates we booked her there and then. Not only does Grace have this ability, but so does her (now) husband Mitch, and having them both there on the day meant while Grace stayed with the bridal party Mitch could shoot the boys, guests arriving, last minute touches to the venue, etc. When getting the photos back these were all the moments I’d missed but now could some how relive. Grace’s style is dreamy, relaxed and natural and Matt knew early on he wanted something like this. Getting those photos back a month all two later will bring it all back to you, emotions will be running high! There is nothing like it, these are the tokens from the day you will keep forever so again, make it work for you!

Abbi&Matt-GraceElizabethPhoto&Film-265.jpg

Plan a wedding you can afford: Unless you have been told, do not assume your family have been squirrelling away pennies for your big day. It’s not the 1950s! We decided on a budget of £6000 and for that we know we could get all the things we really wanted. Also our venue was a beautiful setting and completely DIY so it did some of the work for us but also allowed us to put out stamp on it. The £6000 did turn into £9000 after family members did want to contribute, but this money went on adding those finishing touches. We paid for the registrar to come to the venue (costing £500, instead of a 2 witness ceremony the day before which would have been £45), for the band to stay on for an extra hour, for a bigger hog roast to feed our guests, more flowers to help set off the tables during high tea as well as hiring more crockery and buying in all the majority of the high tea food. All these things made the day a little easier on me (the bride) too as many of these things were on my list of things to beg, borrow, make or steal!

Working with Dearly Beloved: Well as Abi and Ben have been dear friends of mine for 7 years this was a no-brainer for me, but when I met Matt his love of illustration made it even more clear that their work was the perfect fit for us. So, disclaimer, we love these guys… and might be a little bit biased, so I have written this more as a ‘tips’ during the bespoke design process. The beauty of working with a husband and wife team is that you get the best of both worlds. In this case, it is the blend of two styles: Abi being much more free, traditionally feminine and mostly hand painted; Ben being more clear, clean and digitally created - Abi and Ben married the clean and hand painted perfectly. We also kept in some of the hand painted elements I loved by using the portrait Abi had made for us for our save the dates (P.S if you are reading this as a wedding guest rather than bride, buy a freaking portrait for a wedding present, it is the best thing ever and so personal!). Also, if you want to be a fancy pants like us, get the gold foiling, it is delicious and your friends will swoon over it! the biggest lesson we learned was to have conversations and ask questions in those first few meetings/chats, the more you ask in the beginning the more you will love your designs.

CONGRATULATIONS and huge thanks to Abbi and Matt for letting us share their wedding story.

Relaxed yet decadent, Art Deco wedding inspiration

We are so excited to finally share these stunning photos from Margo R Photography’s latest styled shoot. This is Great Gatsby but not as you’ve imagined it before; the team created a beautiful look inspired by the classic 1920s styles we know and love but with a relaxed vibe perfect for modern couples.

MargoRyszczuk-5689.jpg

Here’s what Margo had to say… “I wanted to create something different and unique, using a style that I love – one that is darker than the classical wedding – yet alternative, elegant & glamourous. So, I moved away from conventional whites, creams, reds and pinks. I chose the colour Gold to have the starring role… associated with… sparkle, glitz and glamour.”

art-deco-pub-wedding-MargoRyszczuk-5452.jpg

For couples that want to ditch the ballroom suite in favour of a good old fashioned knees up booking a pub as a wedding reception venue is the perfect choice (and it’s easy on the bank balance too). With just a few details Margo and this team of talented suppliers transformed their favourite local pub, community arts hub Bread and Roses, into a reception venue with vintage charm.

REAL WEDDING // Summer elegance for Sarah & Chris

DearlyBeloved-weddingstationery_Minimal-Monogram_NicolaGoughPhotography(279 of 664).jpg

Sarah & Chris planned a sophisticated wedding day filled with all the class of a traditional big white wedding but with an injection of fun including ice cream in the church grounds, lawn games and even a bouncy castle... and it wasn't just for the kids! Wedding day photography by Nicola Gough Photography.

We created a wedding invitation bundle complete with silver foiled monogram, RSVP card all fastened with an illustrated belly band.

Sarah & Chris' personal style is all about simple design done well as we found out when we chatted to the couple about how best to represent them in their wedding stationery. As well as snaps of their bridesmaid's dresses, wedding flowers and cake topper they sent over some photos of how they have decorated their home to give us an idea of the things they love. We put all those visuals together to create this clean, elegant design with silver foiled, hand drawn monogram and contemporary typography.

Two shoots, two looks, one team...

Night and Day, Ying and Yang, Light and Dark - We joined forces with this team of creative wedding suppliers to create not one but two inspirational looks.

Working at the same venue, the stunning Orangery at Mount Edgcumbe Country Park in coastal Cornwall, on the same day and even using the same model we styled two completely different wedding looks. The first a moody woodland look filled with deep blues, edgy make up and a little leather; the second a fresh faced bride with blush florals, mint green watercolour stationery and plenty of rose gold sequins.

Here's what photographer Agata had to say about how the shoot came together... "It's really important to me as a photographer to reflect my couple's personality on their wedding day; couples spend months (sometimes years!) planning their celebration and so I feel like it's my job to ensure they not only have beautiful memories but that when they look back at their photos they see an essence of their own personal style in their wedding photographs. We're all passionate about taking couple's vision and creating the perfect big day for them and so we wanted to show how just how versatile we are as creative professionals; the two shoots are literally inspired by opposites - Night and Day, Ying and Yang, Light and Dark"

For the darker look we wanted to speak to brides who break the mould and who might not feel represented in the softer looks they see in wedding magazines. We actually used the same stationery collection (Quartz Watercolour) in both looks but chose a strong midnight blue for the edgier bride. We can imagine brides who are a little more alternative rocking their favourite boots under their wedding dress – still feeling like themselves, but the best version of themselves on their big day.

LIGHT

For the Light shoot we were inspired by the traditional English garden at Mount Edgcumbe, we imagined a couple who loved Spring time and fresh dewy colours, what was beautiful on the day was to see how the Light concept was reflected in the soft feminine style of the boho dress from The Wedding Hub, and the rose gold sequins really added a modern punch to the overall look.

Sunset elegance at The Duke

Duke October 17-147.jpg

It's lovely to see our Flora and Fauna Collection featured in this sunset shoot. As part of their inspirational evening for engaged couples The Duke of Cornwall Hotel (with the help from some awesome Devon based wedding suppliers) created this soft yet luxurious wedding look. We edited our Flora and Fauna collection to coordinate with the navy and peach colour scheme; we're loving how elegant it looks in a toned down palette, especially next to the pretty sweet treats hand made by Cut Me Off A Slice.

Real wedding // Sammy & Max at Huntsham Court

Huge congratulations to Sammy & Max who tied the knot this summer at Huntsham Court. This lovely couple chose to personalise our Country Love collection adding a playful nod to one of their favourite places, Val Thoren ski resort, and the fun they have had together there. These beautiful shots were taken by Matt Bowen Photography.

A Bohemian elopement with a touch of Viking spirit...

VikingWeddingStyledShoot-18.jpg

This elopement styled shoot was inspired by Viking seafarers and a love of all things bohemian; what is it Ewan McGregor says in Moulin Rouge... the bohemian ideals are freedom, beauty, truth, and love? Well if your wedding celebrates those biggies then you're off to a good start.

This shoot coordinated by photographer Mila Kos was photographed on the stunning Wembury Devonshire coastline and is the perfect inspiration for an outdoors boho celebration with a touch of raw Viking spirit.

VikingWeddingStyledShoot-29.jpg

The romantic wedding dress designed by SAJA is available from Rock the Frock stockist The Wedding Hub. Such an elegant shape but with softly dropped shoulders for added drama.

VikingWeddingStyledShoot-57.jpg

Our Flora & Fauna wedding invitation and RSVP card was edited to suit the deep reds, pinks and purples of the shoot. (If you love one of our designs but you're not sure the colour scheme would suit your day just get in touch to see if we can edit the design to coordinate with the rest of your celebration.)

For inspiration Heather sent us photographs of the style of her bouquet, it was wonderful to create a personalised pattern for the couple based on the florals that featured on the big day!

REAL WEDDING // Lucy & Ben - An extra special Cypriot celebration

dommoore_2017_wedding_savage-0187.jpg

Today's real wedding post is an extra special post for us as it features none other than Dearly Beloved's Ben's twin sister Lucy and her new husband... also called Ben (yes, family events are confusing). Lucy and Ben tied the knot earlier this year in a beautiful, relaxed ceremony on the Cypriot coast. Wedding day photography by Dom Moore Photography.

For their greetings card style wedding invitation they chose tandem bicycle illustration as a nod to one of their favourite past times (Ben is a triathlete) and asked us to combine this with the iconic Cypriot olive branch.

dommoore_2017_wedding_savage-0023.jpg

The wedding took place at one of the couple's favourite places on earth, a small sailing club near where the family used to live, with the ceremony outside an idyllic church by the sea.

Lucy and Ben planned small, intimate celebration with lots of special DIY touches; the ceremony was conducted by the groom's grandfather, flowers were sourced from a local florist, meters (and meters) and lace bunting was hand made from vintage lace curtains by the bride's mother and sister, we took care of the stationery (of course) and the whole wedding party was on hand to help with decorating the space.

As well as holding nearly a decade of memories for the Aslett family the sailing club was full of rustic charm, it was lovely to be there to add last minute touches like decorating the chalkboard with a welcome message for guests.

It's about time...

HOORAY! WOOP! YAHOO! HURRAH! We are getting hitched! BOOM!

After nearly 10 years together many people we work with assume we are already married; well we have known for a while that we are ready to be a Mr & Mrs unit, and so the time has come we are officially getting wed!

Anyone that knows us will realise that we aren't always the most traditional couple and we are proud to say that we decided to get married together. Although Ben did pull a few surprises from under his hat there wasn't an elaborate one knee moment; instead we collaborated with Christian and Sean from Christian Michael Photography to create a wedding announcement film in St Ives, one of our favourite places. For us it has been the perfect way to share our news with the big wide world (and our Mums).

We went along to the beach not really knowing what we wanted the film to be, and actually pretty bashful about being in front of the camera; Christian took some beautiful still shots of us on the beach and completely put us at ease. It was lovely to meet the family behind the brand and hearing all about Christian and Samantha's own love story just cemented their genuine passion for the wedding industry and working with couples to get married their way.

Sean (the brains behind videography) was an absolute joy to be around, having never done anything like this before we had no idea what a fun day we would have! Sean came up with the 'message in a bottle' concept and this paired Ben's hidden acting talents turned out to be a winning combination.

We cannot thank all the gang enough (including the littlest members of the Christian Michael family) for making the first official day of our engagement so special. We can't wait to sit back in our floating rocking chairs when we are old and grey (we'll have the technology by then, right?) and look back on this time in our lives.
