Two shoots, two looks, one team...

Night and Day, Ying and Yang, Light and Dark - We joined forces with this team of creative wedding suppliers to create not one but two inspirational looks.

Working at the same venue, the stunning Orangery at Mount Edgcumbe Country Park in coastal Cornwall, on the same day and even using the same model we styled two completely different wedding looks. The first a moody woodland look filled with deep blues, edgy make up and a little leather; the second a fresh faced bride with blush florals, mint green watercolour stationery and plenty of rose gold sequins.

Here's what photographer Agata had to say about how the shoot came together... "It's really important to me as a photographer to reflect my couple's personality on their wedding day; couples spend months (sometimes years!) planning their celebration and so I feel like it's my job to ensure they not only have beautiful memories but that when they look back at their photos they see an essence of their own personal style in their wedding photographs. We're all passionate about taking couple's vision and creating the perfect big day for them and so we wanted to show how just how versatile we are as creative professionals; the two shoots are literally inspired by opposites - Night and Day, Ying and Yang, Light and Dark"

For the darker look we wanted to speak to brides who break the mould and who might not feel represented in the softer looks they see in wedding magazines. We actually used the same stationery collection (Quartz Watercolour) in both looks but chose a strong midnight blue for the edgier bride. We can imagine brides who are a little more alternative rocking their favourite boots under their wedding dress – still feeling like themselves, but the best version of themselves on their big day.

LIGHT

For the Light shoot we were inspired by the traditional English garden at Mount Edgcumbe, we imagined a couple who loved Spring time and fresh dewy colours, what was beautiful on the day was to see how the Light concept was reflected in the soft feminine style of the boho dress from The Wedding Hub, and the rose gold sequins really added a modern punch to the overall look.

COLOUR

A celebration of COLOUR.

Let's talk about big white weddings... While they are absolutely stunning, they just aren't for everyone. There are so many engaged couples out there who struggle to plan their wedding because they just don't see themselves in the pages of the big magazines. It's easy to get overwhelmed with nerves about how to style their big day because some traditions just don't suit them; your wedding can and should be a reflection of everything you love (how often do you get to throw the party of a lifetime and celebrate your love for each other?) Make it all about you!

These Frock The HIghstreet  jumpsuits are a stunning choice for an alternative wedding outfit.

For this mini styled shoot by Margo R Photography she was influenced by a couple of different things; Solange's iconic wedding bicycle and afro hairstyle and bold, vibrant colours and geometric shapes.

Real wedding // Rachel & Sam, Seafront love on Porthilly Farm

Wow! Things have been a little crazy at DB HQ (especially as we have decided to join the Mr & Mrs club too); however we couldn't let another week pass without sharing one of the weddings we have been lucky enough to work on this year.

Rachel & Sam were local enough for us to meet up for a couple of coffees (and smoothies) to help plan their big day; with inspiration from classic letterpess designs, paper pom poms, Rachel's meticulous wedmin skills and a whole lot of love we think you'll agree this wedding day was glorious. Photography by Nick Reader.

S&R-184.jpg

After a traditional wedding ceremony at a church close to Rachel's heart the celebrations continued with dinner and dancing at Porthilly Farm, an amazing seafront venue in Cornwall.

Here's what our bride had to say about planning their nuptials...

Why did you decide to have bespoke wedding stationery?
We wanted our mark on the day - something unique to us!

You were super hot on your wedding planning, can you give our followers 3 top tips?
Be organised, be honest with people, don't overthink every decision - it will all be fine!

The fun pom pom decorations from Pom Pom Studios  were the inspiration for our illustrated motif that was echoed throughout Rachel & Sam's stationery.

The fun pom pom decorations from Pom Pom Studios were the inspiration for our illustrated motif that was echoed throughout Rachel & Sam's stationery.

What was the biggest surprise of the day?
No real surprises, as I'm too organised! But I hadn't seen the band [Soulfire] and they were absolutely perfect so my risk paid off! Check them out here

And if you had to pick one moment what was the most memorable part of the day?
For Sam it was the said the first dance, I would say just enjoying everyone that came to celebrate, it was all very overwhelming - all my favourite people in one place!

Becky and Jeremy have planned a glamorous destination wedding on the island of Rhodes and wanted personalised wedding stationery that reflected their love of travel. We wanted to give them modern a look that felt like their very own airline (if you look closely you'll see stamps that represent each country Becky and Jeremy have visited together).

We WON! Wedding Styling Product of the Year 2016 - Vintage Movie Wedding Stationery

Last month we were absolutely OVER THE MOON to be awarded a notonthehighstreet.com Make Award for our Vintage Movie wedding stationery. Judged by the top minds at notonthehighstreet.comElle Decoration and Telegraph Connect our design was selected as the Wedding Styling Product of the Year for 2016. We donned our gladrags and headed to the beautiful Sky Garden for the award ceremony!

Sally Bendelow, NOTHS Creative Product Director and one of the judges of the Make Awards chose our design because of the fresh colour scheme and the ability to personalise the invitaions for both same sex and straight couples alike. Here's what she had to say...

"The Vintage Movie Collection of wedding stationery by Dearly Beloved was recognised by the notonthehighstreet.com Make Awards judges for its contemporary look and feel whilst still capturing the classical romance element all couples-to-be are after. We liked that the collection included save the date, RSVP and table cards as well, making it easy for couples as it satisfies all their stationery requirements at once. In particular, the judges were delighted to see on-trend colours being used (rather than cream and gold for example) and commented on its versatility as it is suited to every season and as there is also the opportunity to tailor it to same-sex couples."

Thanks so much for the recognition notonthehighstreet.com !

Native Flower Farm always uses truly seasonal flowers from their own farm and other local growers in all of their work, all year round.

"...we knew we needed bright but delicate flowers to highlight and meld all the elements of the scheme into one big beautiful whole. Inspired by what we saw in our fields and the classic flower shapes of Dearly Beloved Guildhall designs, we created a bridal bouquet and table-scape of bright pops and fresh greens in a riotous garden-gathered style with a delicate nod to the elegance of the Regency setting of the Guildhall with our favourite trailing ribbon styling." WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO FOR BESPOKE WEDDING STATIONERY?
We wanted save-the-dates, invitations and wedding stationery to be very unique - as a gay couple, the idea of marriage has been a relatively new possibility (the US Supreme Court decision just this year!) for us.  To that extent, we didn't want to follow the traditional route.  Bespoke design allowed us to really put our unique ideas forward in a beautiful and modern way, setting the stage for a wonderful wedding for our family and closest friends.

WHAT WAS THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING WITH DEARLY BELOVED?
Wow, where to start?  We had the most wonderful experience with Dearly Beloved -- Abi and Ben were extremely responsive and easy to work with.  Though we had a rough idea of what we wanted, we had no design/art experience to articulate our ideas. We sent a pinterest board and bunch of clip-art ideas to Abi who transformed our initial designs into a beautiful wedding suite.

Best of all, Abi was SUPER enthusiastic about the project, injecting a vibrant pulse into the project.   Turn-around time for design ideas was super quick and thoughtful -- we often received design alterations within a few hours. Though the project required a lot more work and money than simply picking out a suite of invitations/paper from a website or pre-designed template, the final product was absolutely 100% worth the effort. The bespoke invitations are an amazing way to set the tone for your wedding!

For the formal invitations Manjil and Brad requested a large screenprinted poster; this was so exciting to work on for us, we approached the design as if it was a gig / film poster and hopefully their loved ones will have them pinned up for years to come - a great example of breaking the norm!

MANJIL AND BRAD'S THREE TOP TIPS FOR COUPLES PLANNING A WEDDING
1.  Absolutely remember that you are marrying the person you truly love and the process is meant to be LOVING and FUN --- don't get bogged down in details and try to ENJOY this process.. a wedding is one of the most important events of your life! When there are disagreements, open your mind to alternatives and embrace the union of ideas (easier said than done!).  That said, giving each other unlimited veto power was also very useful!
2.  Start early and involve friends/family in the process.. make a spreadsheet with deadlines and expectations and stick to it!  Estimate a budget for each component of the wedding, and try to stick to it!
3. Closer to the date, planning fatigue is real -- take a break, and don't make hasty decisions.  All in all, remember that the wedding should reflect the couples unique life experiences .. the devil is in the details!

Hot off the press!

We are in Perfect Wedding Magazine! Our Nautical collection was featured in the December 2015 issue as part of their "Make your day unique" feature celebrating "stylish handmade ideas".

We had loads of fun getting messy making this a couple of years ago. We wanted the sea to be the focal point of the collection and so kept it simple with collaged waves from layers of hand painted paper.
