Last spring Henry and Ellie shared their joy with the world with this beautiful wedding celebration. We loved creating a portrait of the pair for their bespoke wedding invitations featuring burgundy and blush florals to coordinate with the decor on their big day! What more can we say, their faces really do say it all - What a wonderful day! See more from Henry & Ellie’s wedding day here on their photographer Katie Ingram’s blog.

MAKE IT EASIER TO RELAX… “My advice for wedding planning is getting as much of it done as soon as you’ve booked the venue. Get all the deposits down and make quick decisions. That gives you time leading up to the event to relax as much as possible and work on all the little details. Also if things don’t turn out how you had planned, you’ll be relaxed enough to resolve them.”

PAY FOR ACTIVITIES GRADUALLY… “We paid for everything slowly, each month as to not feel the total pinch of wedding costs. We thought it was very important for our guests to move around, we had lots of games and things to do/look at around the room.”

PICK GREAT SUPPLIERS FOR PERSONAL TOUCHES… “The biggest compliment we had repeatedly, was the attention to detail. Everyone really enjoyed all the personal touches added everywhere. We cannot rate our suppliers enough!”

REAL WEDDING // Abbi & Matt - North Devon Farmhouse Glam Wedding

Abbi&Matt-GraceElizabethPhoto&Film-453.jpg

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE - What better way to celebrate the beginning of 2019 than sharing a special wedding from the previous year! 5th September 2018 was the day our buddies Abbi & Matt tied the knot at the stunning North Devon venue Ash Barton Estate. Abbi & Matt chose a mix of bespoke and DIY hand made details for their wedding day which included belting out Queen songs during their ceremony, evening sparklers, home baked cakes, hand painted stationery and more. This wedding day is bound to give you the all the feels so read on for heartwarming photos, beautiful details and top tips from the bride herself - Enjoy! Abbi was keen to use stars within the couple’s bespoke wedding designs; from her clothing and jewellery to their home furnishings stars always feature and so this is where their invitation artwork began. We had previously created a portrait for the couple and this paired with a constellation motif became the backbone of their stationery.

We met with Matt and Abbi to chat about the feel they wanted to create for their wedding day and although formal they still wanted their invitations to feel fun. The gold detail gave an element of glamour and the sleek, slim shape kept it feeling like guests were invited to a black tie affair.

Ash Barton Estate is an exclusive use venue nestled in the North Devon countryside; chapel, party barn, farmhouse with kitchen and rooms for guests to stay, pool, games room, not to mention the view; this venue was perfect for Abbi & Matt who, with the help of friends and family, did everything from a big welcome BBQ to baking their own wedding cake before the official celebrations had even begun.

Their day had all the glamour of a (big) vintage white wedding - tuxedoes and all, but with the warmth of an intimate family celebration; this couple took their time spending a couple of years planning a day right for them. Read on for top tips from the DIY bride herself, our beautiful pal Abbi…

Find a venue that works for you: We knew from day one that we did not want a venue that you rock up to, in a hotel, and stay for 10 hours whilst making small talk at the shared bar with another wedding, or worse some sort of business convention. No, no, no. Luckily the year before we got engaged one of my best friends got married at a venue with accommodation for guests and it helped in our wedding venue hunt so much.

More than just one day: We knew we wanted our guests there to celebrate with us the night before and night of the wedding; with ours being a DIY wedding this venue also gave us the chance to get in and decorate the day before (which actually turned into 2 days before, what a dream!). Also having guests coming from such a mix of locations from Birmingham, Bristol, Torquay and Plymouth we tried to find a venue somewhat in the middle, and chanced upon North Devon and our incredible venue, Ash Barton Estate.

Look and feel: Think about what you want your day to look and feel like, do you want guests there over night all mucking in, having a bbq and sitting by the fire pit. Do you want kids (and many adults) running around, playing on trampolines and fighting about air hockey. Do you want a self serving bar for your guests to enjoy… because we did!

For big family weddings having guests stay on site at the venue is a great idea, everyone was free to head back to their rooms to change out of heels/grab a jumper/take kids for a nap, but of course you don’t want anyone to miss any of the action. We created this Order of the Day sign featuring their bespoke constellation illustration to keep all the guests up to date with what was happening when.

Pastel florals with coral pink pops of colour created by Sophie Millington looked beautiful throughout the venue across the stone buildings and hanging foliage.

Abbi&Matt-GraceElizabethPhoto&Film-413.jpg

You cannot ever re-do you wedding photos: … so make damn sure your photographer can create what you are looking for. As you might have guessed from above, our wedding was a family affair, full of kids and so many of our friends chipping in and becoming immersed in the whole experience with us. We were not going to be able to capture the feel of this in posed, poised photos. We needed natural, candid shots throughout the day, and this is exactly why we went with Grace and Mitch. I had met them even before we got engaged, whilst Grace was still a student, as I helped on a styled shoot (with none other than Dearly Beloved). Grace and Mitch were shooting me throughout the day and made me feel so comfortable, when the photos came back in I felt she had captured me so well, laughing, joking, and relaxed. So, as soon as we got engaged we contacted Grace and as soon as the venue had confirmed dates we booked her there and then. Not only does Grace have this ability, but so does her (now) husband Mitch, and having them both there on the day meant while Grace stayed with the bridal party Mitch could shoot the boys, guests arriving, last minute touches to the venue, etc. When getting the photos back these were all the moments I’d missed but now could some how relive. Grace’s style is dreamy, relaxed and natural and Matt knew early on he wanted something like this. Getting those photos back a month all two later will bring it all back to you, emotions will be running high! There is nothing like it, these are the tokens from the day you will keep forever so again, make it work for you!

Abbi&Matt-GraceElizabethPhoto&Film-265.jpg

Plan a wedding you can afford: Unless you have been told, do not assume your family have been squirrelling away pennies for your big day. It’s not the 1950s! We decided on a budget of £6000 and for that we know we could get all the things we really wanted. Also our venue was a beautiful setting and completely DIY so it did some of the work for us but also allowed us to put out stamp on it. The £6000 did turn into £9000 after family members did want to contribute, but this money went on adding those finishing touches. We paid for the registrar to come to the venue (costing £500, instead of a 2 witness ceremony the day before which would have been £45), for the band to stay on for an extra hour, for a bigger hog roast to feed our guests, more flowers to help set off the tables during high tea as well as hiring more crockery and buying in all the majority of the high tea food. All these things made the day a little easier on me (the bride) too as many of these things were on my list of things to beg, borrow, make or steal!

Working with Dearly Beloved: Well as Abi and Ben have been dear friends of mine for 7 years this was a no-brainer for me, but when I met Matt his love of illustration made it even more clear that their work was the perfect fit for us. So, disclaimer, we love these guys… and might be a little bit biased, so I have written this more as a ‘tips’ during the bespoke design process. The beauty of working with a husband and wife team is that you get the best of both worlds. In this case, it is the blend of two styles: Abi being much more free, traditionally feminine and mostly hand painted; Ben being more clear, clean and digitally created - Abi and Ben married the clean and hand painted perfectly. We also kept in some of the hand painted elements I loved by using the portrait Abi had made for us for our save the dates (P.S if you are reading this as a wedding guest rather than bride, buy a freaking portrait for a wedding present, it is the best thing ever and so personal!). Also, if you want to be a fancy pants like us, get the gold foiling, it is delicious and your friends will swoon over it! the biggest lesson we learned was to have conversations and ask questions in those first few meetings/chats, the more you ask in the beginning the more you will love your designs.

Sarah & Chris planned a sophisticated wedding day filled with all the class of a traditional big white wedding but with an injection of fun including ice cream in the church grounds, lawn games and even a bouncy castle... and it wasn't just for the kids! Wedding day photography by Nicola Gough Photography.

We created a wedding invitation bundle complete with silver foiled monogram, RSVP card all fastened with an illustrated belly band.

Sarah & Chris' personal style is all about simple design done well as we found out when we chatted to the couple about how best to represent them in their wedding stationery. As well as snaps of their bridesmaid's dresses, wedding flowers and cake topper they sent over some photos of how they have decorated their home to give us an idea of the things they love. We put all those visuals together to create this clean, elegant design with silver foiled, hand drawn monogram and contemporary typography.

REAL WEDDING: Chris & James - Taking centre stage...

Chris and James planned an awesome, personal wedding at the stunning exclusive use country house Pendrell Hall; if you're looking for some no nonsense advice from a couple that have been there then read on...

Keep track of what you've got and what you want, including budget and when payments are due - the more things you have written down out of your head, the less you have to try and remember

It might sound like a given but getting details out of your head and onto paper will give you the space you need to make those all important decisions. So... cocktails or prosecco?

Do things in advance to avoid disappointment, if there is a certain thing you want at the wedding i.e pianist, research and get it booked!

We love this one, once you have the budget and wedding date sorted start getting in touch with suppliers. It might seem like you need to have all the details ironed out before you book the creative folk you need to make your celebration happen, but we are always happy to chat to couples. Let's talk about the style of stationery you would like; we start work on the designs while you nail down the finer details. We can save your designs and give you a couple of weeks to decide on the final timings etc, just get back in touch when you're ready and we'll send everything to print once you know what time the party gets started.

The highlight...

Seeing all our friends and family in one place having the most amazing time, all to celebrate our relationship together. Seeing people laughing, crying, dancing, singing and just simply having so much fun meant the world to us and brought us the upmost amount of joy. We can remember both taking a moment during our wedding breakfast to look out across the room and take in all the faces of happiness chatting away to people they might not have even met before.

Don't be afraid to change your mind, it's a once in a lifetime day so it is important to get it right!

As well as a bespoke portrait Chris and James added a fun theme for their wedding day stationery inspired by their love of West End musicals.

Musicals are our joint hobby, we love nothing more than going to the theatre and taking in a great show - it is what makes us so happy. We wanted to bring that into our special day as it is what people know us for, so we ensured all the table names were named after our favourite musicals, made the favours linked to the table name and also ensured lots of the songs from various musicals were played. We walked down the aisle to 'Can you feel the love tonight' from the Lion King so we ensured the theme ran throughout the whole day. We loved bringing to life our passion for musicals including the fabulous table plan!

Thanks so much to Chris and James for sharing a little of what made their wedding day special - Congratulations guys!

REAL WEDDING // STEPHANIE & JONATHON - DOUBLE DESTINATION

We were over the moon when Stephanie and Jonathon asked to work on their wedding stationery. As friends of a previous couple it was a huge compliment to be asked to create something for them too, and when we heard they were having not one but two destination weddings we were even more excited to get to work.

Check out both their beautiful, joyful celebrations below - Stephanie wore a jewelled cape! #weddinggoals #lifegoals

They loved both geometric shapes and vibrant floral designs and so we combined the two to create a bold invitation suite with hand painted lettering and matching wedding menu. We also designed a fun portrait illustration of the couple for their wedding website.

Ed & Zoe - A real Cornish Country Farm Wedding

Ed & Zoe got in touch with us after spotting our designs on Instagram; the couple were planning a traditional church ceremony followed by fun marquee celebration on their parents farm and asked us to create stationery to suit the laid back style of their big day. Read on to see how their beautiful Cornish country farm wedding came together... Wedding day photography by the talented Christian Michael Photography.

Here's what Zoe had to say about working with us... "Having Dearly Beloved create our wedding stationery is something I'm truly thankful for. From the initial meeting with Abi our vision was perfectly captured and it was so exciting when our beautiful invites finally arrived. So many of our guests contacted us once they'd received their invites to say how fabulous they were and that they'd not seen anything like them before (yay). It gave people a little taster of our wedding style and what was to come. The stationery for the wedding day itself was just incredible. Again, we received so much positive feedback from guests with how quirky it looked."

Claire & Ollie: Vintage English Riviera

It's amazing to see the bespoke wedding invitations we created for South West couple Claire & Ollie in print! We first met Claire at a vintage inspired craft fair where she picked up one of Abi's illustrations; fast forward a couple of years and we are so happy to still in be touch and working with the couple to help make their big day special!

We illustrated not one but two wedding invitations featuring a daytime scene for guests attending the full wedding, and the same portrait of the couple, only this time at dusk, for their evening reception guests; both with names in hand painted lettering.

Claire and Ollie are pulling out all the stops with a personal celebration in their home town of Torquay. Inspired by the British seaside, classic fashion of the 1950s and colourful, retro railway posters, we are working on a suite of stationery including Save the Date post cards, invitations, wedding day signage... and... well... you'll just have to stay tuned to find out the rest!

Ed & Zoe - Country Farm Florals

We were thrilled when Zoe got in touch with us before Christmas after spotting our designs on Instagram; the couple are planning a fun marquee celebration on their parents farm and asked us to create a collection to suit the laid back style of the day.

We created a portrait, hand painted lettering and a couple of fun floral patterns for their invitation, RSVP and information cards.
